As a new mom, do you ever just feel like you’re constantly starting your day off on the wrong foot?

Yeah, me too.

Mornings with a baby can be chaotic and overwhelming, but they don’t have to be. The best way to create more peace in your day is by setting yourself up for small wins and simple joys, especially first thing in the morning. We’re not looking for perfection, we’re just trying to create a more peaceful, calming foundation for the day.

Here are 5 realistic and uplifting morning tips for those early postpartum days to help you start your day on the right foot—even after a sleepless night.

Clean the Kitchen Before Bed (When Possible)

It may not always happen-which is totally fine-but when you can, tidy up the kitchen the night before. For me, waking up to a disaster of a kitchen increases my stress levels exponentially. I may not feel like it at the time, but I have never regretted spending 10-15 minutes on a kitchen reset, whereas, I always regret waking up to a dirty kitchen.

Mom Life Hack: Keep it simple. Load the dishwasher, wipe down surfaces, and put away clutter.
It doesn’t have to be a deep clean. A little goes a long way.

I spent roughly 25-30 minutes on this kitchen reset while listening to my Music is Magic playlist (linked down below).

When I finished, I lit a candle and fixed a glass of Sleepytime tea and was able to go to bed knowing I would be able to start the morning on a fresh note.

Let the Light In Right Away

As soon as you wake up, open the curtains or blinds. Natural light helps your body and mind shift into “day mode.” It boosts mood, increases alertness, and it will help your baby start to differentiate between day and night! Which will eventually mean more sleep for you (and trust me, more sleep is NEVER bad when you’re freshly postpartum).

Extra boost: Step outside for just a minute with your baby, if weather allows.
Fresh air + sunlight = instant mood boost.

Simplify Breakfast and Eat with Your Baby

How to survive the morning with a baby? Skip the complicated meals. Keep a few go-to, low-effort breakfasts ready—like overnight oats, toast with peanut butter, or pre-cut fruit.
I personally like scrambled eggs with veggies, I prechop and freeze onions and bell peppers as well as buy frozen spinach. It makes for a quick, easy breakfast packed full of nutrients.
Bonus-I can shovel 4 scrambled eggs in my mouth in under 5 minutes if my baby is upset.

Take the time to eat. Nourishment IS self care. Your body needs fuel, especially when you’re breastfeeding or running on little sleep (or both).

Avoid Checking Social Media First Thing

It’s tempting to scroll while feeding or rocking your baby, but starting your day in someone else’s life can leave you feeling overwhelmed or “behind” before you even get going.
Believe me, comparison is the thief of joy, ESPECIALLY when you’re a new mom. It’s easy to see someone’s highlight reel and think you’re not doing enough.

Instead: Try staying off your phone for the first 30–60 minutes. Use that time to connect with your baby, sip your coffee, or simply breathe.

Play Your Favorite Song and Dance with Your Baby

Music is magic. Turn on a song that lifts your mood and move with your baby. Dance around the kitchen, sway in the living room, or sing along while making breakfast. My son loves music and he is much happier when we’re connecting through music even if I’m not holding him.
Check out my Spotify playlist Music is Magic if you want some fun music to dance to!

I hope you like nostalgia because this playlist is full of it! Comment and let me know if you listen to it. Any songs you would add? Let me know!

Listen to my playlist or your own favorite playlist as a simple way to boost your endorphins and start the day with joy!

The way you start your day as a new mom truly matters. You don’t need a perfect routine. You just need a few habits that support you—so you can show up feeling more grounded and present for your baby. These five tips aren’t about adding pressure; they’re about creating moments of ease, energy, and connection.

Because the way you start your day matters—and you deserve to feel good, too.
